EDCI 335 – Blog Post #4 – Interaction

This week I will be discussing interaction, in regards to inquiry-based learning! I have embedded the video I am discussing in this post below.

In what way are they likely to respond to the video on their own, e.g. make notes, do an activity, think about the topic (learner-generated)?

For this video, the students could be interacting with the video by taking notes. This video discussing the benefits of inquiry-based learning, and if this was something students were going to be expecting to know, taking notes would be very beneficial for them. Furthermore, after the video is done the students could talk in pairs and discuss the video and the benefits they remember.

What activity could you suggest that they do, after they have watched the video (designed)? What type of knowledge or skill would that activity help develop? What medium or technology would students use to do the activity?

An activity the students could do after watching this video is make a powerpoint on the benefits of inquiry-based learning and share an example of when they have used this type of learning in the past. This would help the students recall the benefits and give them practice making a powerpoint. The students would be required to use laptops or iPads. Most schools have a class set of iPads or ChromeBooks that are available for students to use.

How would students get feedback on the activity that you set? What medium or technology would they and/or you use for getting and giving feedback on their activity?

The students could get feedback on this activity after they present their powerpoint. They would just have to present to the teacher, and then I could give some feedback and explain the concept further if needed. They would get their feedback face to face, or if this was an online class over Zoom.

How could the video have been designed to generate more or better activity from viewers or students?

I think it would be very cool if this video had the ability to pause in-between important topics and have a little quiz to check the viewers understanding. As this video is on Youtube, I do not this this is possible, but if it was on a different site I believe that would be very beneficial. The quiz would not be graded, and the scores would not even been kept. It would just be for the students, so they can see how well they are understanding the concept being taught. Furthermore, this would also generate more activity for the viewers because they would have to interact with the video in order to finish watching it!
