Week 7- Tech

This week for my tech blog I am going to be reviewing the application called “Mindful Colouring.” I wanted to review this app specifically because it looked like it would be a good app for students to use on their own when they are feeling stressed or need a break. This app is free on the App Store, and can be accessed on any phone or device.

The home page of this app is very soothing and fun. There is background music playing that would calm anyone down. There are three main options to choose from, they are: Magic, Colouring book, and Blank. Each choice has many different features for the user to try. The option “Magic” would best suit younger students. This option allows the user to tap on the screen and when tapped on the right spot, a beautiful picture starts to form. The option “Colouring Book” could be used by all age groups. The user can choose what type of drawing they would like to colour in, an example of a few options are, abstract, animals, flowered, and world. Then, once they have chosen which type they want, they start colouring it in! The last option the users can choose is Blank. The Blank option, could also be used by all age groups. The users freely draw and colour whatever they want!

I think a good time to use this app in a classroom setting would be when one students is having troubles focusing and they are disrupting the class. If the students is given some time (even just 5-10 minutes) to calm down and re-focus by using this app on their own, I think it would be very beneficial. The app is very straight forward and easy to use, so any student would be able to use it, and even if they get confused I think a teacher would be able to easily explain to them how it works.

Mindful colouring is very popular in today’s society, but sometimes the colour books can be very expensive. I think it is awesome that this app is free for anyone, and I would definitely recommend it. The only negative about this app is that there is ads. A student may not know what an ad is and click it, but I think a solution to this would be to turn the wifi setting off while the child is using it and then no ads would pop up. Overall, I would rate this app 9/10!
